Prof. Cees Passchier is a structural geologist working on small-scale structures of rocks at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany.
Since 2005, he has worked on the interpretation of carbonate deposits in Roman aqueducts in France, Turkey and Greece, and has built up a large collection of carbonate samples from ancient water structures.
He is also curator of the website on roman aqueducts ROMAQ (www.ROMAQ.org).
Prof. Passchier will work in the HYDRΩMED project on water monitoring and the analysis of carbonate deposits in the Syracusan Galermi aqueduct.
